Scalding, through the use of uncontrolled hot water, is an accident which can ruin lives.
Its devastating effect on the skin can be irreversible and lifelong scarring and disfiguration can result. In fact, almost 600 accidents and an alarming 30 deaths a year result from scalding accidents. You don’t normally expect such terrible results from using a bathroom. Fortunately, scalding has come under the scrutiny of our legislators and from this month new laws will help prevent it.
Bathroom retailers need to be up to speed with the law’s requirements which are contained within Building Regulations Revised Part G. It is expected that new products will be developed and new markets will be opened up as a result of the new regs. Those retailers who know the new rules will be way ahead of those who don’t.
From 6 April 2010 all newly built or substantially refurbished bathrooms must be fitted with a Thermostatic Mixing Valve designed specifically to limit the temperature of hot water.
