Bathroom Staff Training – now is the time!
[Back to Articles]

There appears to be more signs of optimism in the housing market. Latest data from the Bank of England show that mortgage approvals have edged up and according to Nationwide, house prices have increased, back to levels they were twelve months ago. The RICS housing market survey provides further signs of stabilisation and new buyer enquiries are creeping up. To cap it all the British Retail Consortium reports some small growth in retail sales. So although commentators are saying that it will be 2010 before we see substantial growth, the economy may have seen its worst.
Now is the time to train
“So now is the time for staff training” says Yvonne Orgill, chief executive of the BMA. “Well motivated and genuinely well-informed staff can have a major impact on the performance of a bathroom business. So as green shoots start to appear the industry must ensure its people are ready.”
The BMA’s Bathroom Academy has seen some remarkable success in producing good, relevant and cost effective bathroom product training. Over 100,000 of the Academy’s Industry Guides have been downloaded from its website since their launch. The success of the guides has been a welcome and pleasant surprise to the industry experts who created them. But the bathroom industry is moving quickly and the guides are continually being overhauled and updated.
Sanitaryware and Fittings has been revamped with some sections taking a complete re-write. The guide talks in detail about the latest WC designs. Cistern and flushing technology is also discussed at length, since it is here that the greatest water savings can be made.
The Shower Enclosures guide takes a fresh look at the subject discussing how a new enclosure should be chosen to suit the needs of the end user.
Another new guide is especially relevant following the publication of the Revised Approved Document G of the Building Regulations. The new regulations make bathroom safety a priority. All new homes must have a Thermostatic Mixing Valve installed on the bath to prevent accidents, even death, through scalding by uncontrolled hot water. This excellent guide provides in-depth information about The TMV.
All the training guides are well written, readable and easy to understand. They are invaluable for complete novices but are also useful for the more experienced who may need a “refresher”. They are downloadable from www.bathroom-academy.co.uk/guides2.asp and for those who want to progress further and achieve the ‘Certificate in Bathroom Studies’ they form part of a complete eLearning course.
