Pre-budget report disappoints BMA
[Back to Articles]

The Bathroom Manufacturers Association has reacted strongly to the pre-budget report.
“The announcement is a major disappointment to our members” commented Yvonne Orgill chief executive of the BMA. “The Chancellor’s planned cuts in the housing budget can only make an already serious situation much worse. New build is already way off Gordon Brown’s targets and manufacturers who rely on new build for a large proportion of their business will need to reassess the new situation very quickly.
The BMA also considers that the Chancellor has made a major mistake in imposing an extra jobs tax at a time when the economic recovery is still fragile. Increasing National Insurance contributions will hold back job creation and growth.
“On the positive side” says Orgill “the push towards carbon reduction is welcomed since many of our members are already designing and marketing bathroom products which are both water and energy efficient. These products are now coming into their own.”
