There are exciting things happening in bathrooms!
Over the past couple of years there has been a quiet revolution in the UK bathroom industry. Amazing and innovative products have been introduced which save water, save energy and save space. Richly coloured washbasins, toilets, furniture and accessories have begun to appear and are attracting a lot of attention at the major European home exhibitions. Taps and fittings have also attracted attention from ‘cool hunters’ who are looking for coloured chrome, polished nickel and antiqued brass, all of which are witnessing a comeback. Special low energy solid state lighting continues its growth and is well suited to a bathroom environment but pendant lighting is ever popular for some traditional homes.
The bathroom industry has responded quickly to the increasing demands from many quarters for gorgeous new designs which have ‘built in’ sustainability. Home owners are not moving because they are struggling to find a mortgage so they are staying where they are and looking to improve their traditional home and reduce their living costs with the very latest bathroom products.
The bathroom is the ideal room to renovate. A sparkling new and technologically advanced suite adds value to a property as well as reducing bills. The UK consumer now has a greater choice of product than ever before. Furthermore, there are more diverse retail outlets springing up where the home owner can buy the dream suite. New bathroom specialists, DIY and home furniture stores, giant supermarkets and online shopping sites are appearing (even in difficult times) with fabulous bathroom offers and great value for money .
Yvonne Orgill, chief executive of the Bathroom Manufacturers Association, explains.
“The BMA is a long established trade association representing 76 well known bathroom brands and £4 billion of business in the UK. The BMA has its finger on the pulse of the British bathroom and staff in our offices in Stoke-on-Trent have been surprised and delighted by the recent increase in requests for information about the best possible products to use during the renovation of a traditional home. Members of the BMA have some terrific new eco-friendly products in their portfolios,” says Yvonne. “The designs of WC suites, baths, taps and showers have come a long way in the last few years and products are now available, online and in big stores, which would never have been dreamt of just a few years ago. All new designs are based on water saving and some products have special energy saving capability too.”
A good quality modern style of bathroom can sit well in either a traditional or a contemporary home and will not look out of place if it is well thought out and carefully planned. It’s easier than ever before for every home owner to achieve their dream bathroom.
Helpful advice for would–be bathroom buyers is available at the BMA website where pages are dedicated to help the consumer.
